Buffalo Street Books

Buffalo Street Books is one of the only community-owned, cooperative bookstores in the country. When the prospect of losing our only general interest new bookstore in downtown came to the community’s attention in early 2011 the people rallied to save the store, knowing that independent bookstores are a sign of a vital, literate, engaged community.  As a co-op it is part of their mission to not just sell books but also to serve the community, so they work extensively with Tompkins County Public Library, various school districts in the area and the Family Reading Partnership to make sure that great quality books are in the hands of everyone.

Buffalo Street Books also hosts a variety of literary arts programs including readings, book clubs and even a monthly competitive storytelling event through their non-profit affiliate, Buffalo Street Bookmarks!

The store has made several recent changes, including a major reset of the interior, which will allow them to participate in Gallery Night and make the bookstore an even more beautiful and exciting place to spend time, meet friends old and new and enjoy the power of a great book.
