The Metal Smithery
For Ithaca native Elaan Greenfield, making jewelry was once a hobby – her first studio was a $15 desk from a thrift shop – and is now a more than full-time endeavor. Aside from designing and making jewelry for sale, she wanted to create a metal arts school and maker space for the whole community. Elaan sees metalsmithing as an art form and as an empowering outlet for everything from creativity to stress relief.
In September of 2018, Elaan opened The Metal Smithery and began teaching at the area’s only metal arts school, that is one of only a small handful in New York. Elaan is excited to share her love of metal arts with beginners and beyond to foster a thriving local community of metalsmiths. She wants her classes to be accessible to as many people as possible by offering sliding scale fees and collaborating with local organizations to host special events for groups, such as youth and people that are grieving.
The Metal Smithery and the studio of Elaan Greenfield Designs (www.elaangreenfield.com) are located at the South Hill Business Campus, 950 Danby Road, Suite 30. You can find information about classes, workshops, and more at www.metalsmithery.com.
